So I decided to make the babes a color matching pillow game. Cozy for her head and good for her brain!
Cute? I think so! Want to make one - you can it's quite easy and doesn't take nearly as long as the owl pillow since there is very little hand sewing involved. The steps for pillow construction are similar and as you can see the fabrics I used match as well.
For this pillow I cut my main pillow square 15.5"x15.5" since I had a 14"x14" pillow form. and did 2/3 of the main piece size for each back flap so there is a good amount of overlap in the back.
I made whales for the pillow to match the wall decals we bought for the babes new room. (although I won't lie I almost did hearts). Feel free to use whatever shape you like (if there is interest I can upload my whale pattern).
This project is great for using up felt scraps (which I have plenty of) Cut out 9 of your chosen shape out of 9 different colors.
(the babes is trying to grab the felt)
Next figure out where your shapes will lie and where the buttons need to be, because of the shape of the whale I couldn't just center and line up the buttons, but if you did a simple shape (like a heart) you could just line everything up much easier.
- Find 9 buttons to match your 9 colors (or else you won't have much of a matching game).
- Sew the buttons on in their places
Now move onto the back, I did bias tape on one side of the back flap and then double folded over and hemmed the other side. (note that if you use the super skinny bias tape like I did you need to pin it very well and take out the pins as you come up to them for a tidy look)
Lay your pieces out main pillow piece side up, bias taped back flap right side facing the whales side, and then the hemmed back piece on the top right side down.
Pin, sew around all four sides, flip out, and you are done!
